Chapter 3

Books of the Bible

Where at least one book of the Bible is already available in text, audio, and video — and where it's still missing.

Chapter 31 of 7 sections · 0% read

One book already changes a people's relationship with the Word

This chapter shows how many language groups already have at least one book of the Bible recorded, and in which formats: print text, audio text, and video text. The focus is not the complete Bible, but the first concrete access to Scripture in the heart language.

Each format extends reach to different contexts of use.

How to read these figures

All values are calculated directly from ICMT's connected database. When a record has no information, it remains visible and identified as such: no data is estimated, filled in, or replaced.

Key concepts

Book of the Bible

A complete unit of Scripture, such as Mark, Genesis, or Acts. A single translated book already represents real access to the biblical text.

Print text

A written record of the biblical text, printed or digital, that can be read by the community.

Audio text

An audio recording of the biblical text, essential for communities with a predominantly oral tradition.

Video text

Biblical text presented in audiovisual format, expanding access in digital and community contexts.

Universe analyzed

Figures 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 cover the Catálogo1 destaque consolidado, which gathers the values Catálogo1 destaque and Catálogo4_concorrência1 from the database. Figure 3.4 covers the other catalogs.

What this chapter shows

  1. A single book of the Bible already represents real access to Scripture in the heart language.
  2. Most Catalog1 Highlight groups already have at least one book in written text.
  3. Audio progresses where text already exists; where it doesn't, the priority is to investigate the situation.
  4. Video still reaches a smaller share of groups, inside and outside Catalog1.
  5. Groups without coordinates remain in the lists: the absence of a map is not the absence of a people.
